You get a 3 of a kind whenever you have three cards of the same number or face card. You might have three fives, three jacks, or three sixes. Again, the remaining cards do not make a winning hand when combined. This hand beats a two pair as well as a one pair hand.
A straight occurs when you have numbers in a consecutive order. By way of example, ace, two, three, four, and five, or seven, eight, nine, ten, and jack. A straight always consists of five cards.
